African Treasure Chest

Event organised by Comitato per la Salvaguardia dell'Arte delle Perle di Vetro Veneziane e Galleria Akka Project Venice
On Friday 23 September at 5.30 pm, at the Akka Project Gallery, the gallery owners and representatives of the CPVV Committee will conduct a guided tour of the personal exhibition of Cyrus Kabiru, a young Kenyan artist of international fame, who breathes new life into various recycled materials including glass beads. During the visit, the section "Scrigno d'Africa", will also be presented, dedicated to the beads made in Venice and bound for Africa.
The art of creating and stringing glass beads in Venice is present since 1338 thanks to an active community of Perlere, Perleri (bead makers) , Impiraresse, Infilatori (Threaders), Grinders and Masters.
In December 2020, UNESCO recognized the Art of Glass Beads as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity
